It is with great despair that I write my first blog post about my AmeriCorps experience 2 months and 1 week after starting it, but alas, here I go.

I tried to imagine what my job would be like before I began it and to tell you the truth, I really had no idea what I was getting into. I'd been on 5 Alternative Breaks between college and high school and I imagined it would be similar to that -- drywalling, insulating, painting, and working with volunteers. But I couldn't wrap my head around the idea that I was a Site Supervisor for St. Bernard Project, rebuilding houses right here in New Jersey, where I've lived my whole life. Hurricanes of this magnitude didn't happen here, I thought to myself before Hurricane Sandy. And now here I am, rebuilding a house for an elderly couple, James, 91 and Theresa, 88 that has been displaced from their home for nearly two years.

I couldn't possibly fit everything about the last two months into one blog post or do my experience real justice through words, other than to say that, love and patience go far in this line of work, and I've done my best to incorporate both into my work and my treatment of volunteers. I will leave you with a few photos, and write a better post as soon as possible!
